Genevieve asks if Edwin know Colonel Harvey. He friend is writing a letter of introduction for her. She is trying to get an editorial position. She wants Edwin to write a letter to Col. Harvey in her behalf. She teels Edwin that she was Assoc. editor of the Californian Illustrated and was on the staff of the San Fransico Chronicle and that she has written for the "Ladies World" and "Housewife".She also asks if he know about thr poem Prof. Holden sent and if the author is H Van Allen Ferguson. The opera book is finished.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
